DOWNBYTHESEASIDE

DOWNBYTHESEASIDE – MAKING A SPLASH

Half way through the racing season in Australasia and Downbytheseaside has sired the most amount of 2-year-old winners in both countries. Notching up his 16 th individual winner in Australia on Friday night at Albion Park with Ourbeachgirlmaywyn (A Rocknroll Dance) notching up a comfortable 5.3m victory for driver Shane Graham and trainer Kelli Dawson.

Continuing that fine form in New Zealand, Carter Dalgety for Cran and Chrissie Dalgety had the 6th individual 2-year-old winner for the season for sire Downbytheseaside with Showstopper (Village Jasper). Raced by breeder Brian West of Studholme Bloodstock, he has shown again that passed in sales horses are not to be overlooked, this filly was on offer for $25,000 at the NZB yearling sales and could not have got off to a better start winning by ¾ of a length at Addington on Sunday.

Downbytheseaside number two has arrived with an entry into the Protostar after winning the $20,000 race at Ballarat, his name is Cardigan Dan (Rock N Roll Heaven). 3 starts now for 2 wins and $28,400 to his name, this horse looks like a rocket, 1.53 mile rate to his name now as well, bring on the Protostar.

SWEET LOU SIRES SECOND NORTH AMERICA CUP WINNER

Louprint, enough said. 1.47.1 at Woodbine Park over the weekend setting a stakes and track record in the North America Cup Final. Interestingly bred for the breeding fanatics, out of a Rockin Image (RocknRoll Hanover) mare and in turn out of a Bettor’s Delight mare showing that the Western Ideal cross with Sweet Lou is proving hugely successful, then throw in the most dominant sire in the world Bettor’s Delight and you have a Dan Patch 2 year old of the year winning 7 of 10 races with 2 further seconds and 1 third breaking 1.49 for the first time 1.48.8 now he is 5 wins 5 starts as a 3 year old and banked nearly $1,200,000 USD to date.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS

STONEWALL STUD – ADDINGTON TREBLE + AUCKLAND DOUBLE
Wow, what a month for the team at Stonewall Stud (41 winners) since the start of May. 21 of these being by Woodlands Stud stallions, Bettors Delight, Sweet Lou and Downbytheseaside, seem to be a good trend here, with over 50% of the winners being by them. 2 x Group winning horse Allamericanplayer including Group 1 NZ Welcome Stakes and Group 2 NZ Sapling Stakes spearheading the Stonewall juggernaut.

Friday night seen another treble at Addington raceway including wins from Bettors Delight sired Franco Ezra (Big Jim) and an impressive victory up in grade from Cocktails And Caviar (Changeover) as well as the supersonic son of Sweet Lou, Bar Louie (In The Pocket) running home in 56.4/27.9 continuing a winning trend for the team making it 3/3 wins this year. Impressively Stonewall also had 2 winners in Auckland for the night making it 5 for the
night.

LATHER UP
El Mystro out of an Allamericaningot mare has backed up his maiden win in Western Australia on Friday night under a hold at Gloucester Park, this horse certainly looks to have some substance to him. Winning his first race in a 1.55 mile rate and backing it up with a 1.56 mile rate around Gloucester Park certainly looks to be one to watch in the 2 year old rankings.

BETTOR'S DELIGHT

He's 27 and still putting up feature wins nearly every week - Bettors Creation has won the $150,000 APG 2 year old fillies final on Saturday night at Menangle for trainer Jarrod Alchin and top reinsman Cameron Hart. 2 starts now for 2 wins, a comfortable 13.5m win, $87,000 in winnings and bred on the golden cross Bettor’s Delight
x Christian Cullen I am sure owner Chris Tucker is very excited of what the future has to hold for this filly.

WHAT THE HILL
Queensland has a nice trotter on their hands with the aptly named Kicking Horse making it 3 starts 3 wins at Albion Park on Friday night. He is out of a Monkey Bones mare, who to the trotting breeder did a very good job as a sire from a smaller crop, so it is nice he is going on as a broodmare sire. Congratulations to owner/breeder Sharon Mitchell, may the winning streak continue for you.

AMERICAN IDEAL
American Me (Presidential Ball) reentered the winners circle for trainers Brent and Tim White in Auckland on Friday night. If you want to see how to make the most of the 25m handicap, watch the replay and see how quickly driver Harrison Orange hit the lead, a site we don’t often see. Home in 54.5/27.5 that was what was most likely expected with the front running drive but one trainers Brent and Tim will be happy to see, considering they have had to go north during the winter months with the Group 1 winner due to lack of opportunities in that grade during winter in Canterbury.
