WS NEWS | Breeding Season is Here!

Breeding Season 2025-26 Is Officially Underway!

Monday was our first official shipping day for the season and while your stud may not yet have kicked off, now is the time to ensure everything is in place, from vets to insurance and, of course, your stallion choices.

We can help with the latter. Woodlands Stud is proud to offer five world-class sires with fresh semen available right across Australasia.

This is a roster packed with firepower. Week after week, our stallions continue to deliver on the track.

Here are just a few highlights from the past week:

WOODLANDS FIRST FOUR

With just over a quarter of the season remaining, Woodlands Stud stallions are making their mark in Australia, holding down the top four places on the 2025 Australian 2YO Sires Leaderboard!

Adding to the success, our other pacing sire, Lather Up, has also cracked the leaderboard in 16th position, an impressive effort from a smaller crop of foals.

Across the Tasman, Bettor’s Delight and Downbytheseaside continue their dominance, also leading the New Zealand 2YO Sires Leaderboard.

At Woodlands Stud, every stallion is carefully selected to cross well with Southern Hemisphere mares. Our roster may be small in numbers, but the performances on the track prove we deliver big in results.

DOUBLE DOWN - DOWNBYTHESEASIDE

Downbytheseaside’s progeny are thriving, notching up nine winners in just one week – including three doubles across both sides of the Tasman (Globe Derby, Addington & Methven).

His 2-year-old crop is getting results on the track and on the leaderboards:

Leading sire of Individual 2YO Winners in Australia (26)

Leading sire of Total 2YO Wins in New Zealand (16)

Dr. Andrew Grierson has described him as “one of the most fertile stallions I’ve seen in the breeding shed”

With fertility and performance combined, he’s a first-class option for your mare this season.

IDEAL RESULT - AMERICAN IDEAL

The Westbred Finals at Gloucester Park showcased our stallions’ strength – particularly in the 3YO Colts & Geldings Final, where Woodlands sires filled the first five placings:
1st - Ideal Beach (American Ideal)
2nd - Bettor Move Matty (Bettor’s Delight)
3rd - American Machine (American Ideal)
4th - Chugach (American Ideal)
5th - El Mystro (Lather Up)

It was the first Group 1 for Ideal Beach (Somebeachsomewhere dam), his fifth win from just six starts, and his career earnings are now approaching $250,000.

Limited frozen semen from American Ideal is available in NZ only – contact Cameron Grant today to secure your booking.

OTHER NEWS

DELIGHTFUL WEEK FOR BETTOR'S DELIGHT

It was another massive week for our champion sire:

 22 winners across Australasia

Trebles at Bathurst & Alexandra Park

Doubles at Albion Park, Penrith, Addington & Methven

To top it off, Bettor’s Delight was crowned the “Greatest Standardbred Stallion of All Time” yesterday as part of the NZSBA Father’s Day Celebration – as voted on by the fans.

He is looking great, health is top-notch, semen is incredibly motile and he is set for another busy season ahead.

PARTY UP, WITH LATHER UP!

LATHER UP continues to make his mark with smart winners.

The Woodlands Stud-bred Party Up Denario (from a Bettor’s Delight mare) scored impressively at Wyndham last week. A $6,000 weanling purchase by Mark O'Connor in 2022, she looks like a bright prospect for her syndicate of owners.
