TIGER ROARS TO VICTORY IN VICTORIA CUP

Outstanding pacer Tiger Tara fired the first shot on the Grand Circuit when he led and the won the time-honoured Victoria Cup at Melton. Posting a 1.53.4 mile rate for the 2240 metre feature the son of Bettor’s Delight was simply too classy for his rivals. With earnings now in excess of $1.5 million, Tiger Tara is on track for a tilt at the New Zealand Cup. The race saw Bettor’s Delight quinelled the feature with Chicago Bull claiming second.

At Woodbine in Canada, Bettor’s Delight sired both the Ontario Sires Stakes gold winners for the rookie pacers. His daughter Summer Charm took the $225,000 final for the fairer sex in 1.52.6 and in the boy’s division his son Keystone Concrete led in a Bettor’s Delight sired trifecta in 1.52 flat! Bettor’s Delight siring excellence knows no bounds!

American Ideal had a good week out west where he sired a double at Northam with Miss Tivoli and Ohoka Ritchie greeting the judge and Show You The Stars was a Pinjarra winner. Pegasus Spur’s son Marvellous Max continues his rise through the classes, he was an impressive winner at Melton on Victoria Cup night.

WARRAWEE UBEAUT SETS NEW WORLD RECORD FOR 2YO’S

Sweet Lou’s star 2yo daughter Warrawee Ubeaut etched her name into harness racing folklore when she became the sports fastest 2yo in history. She posted a staggering 1.48.6 mile rate when she won a division of the International Stallion Stakes at The Red Mile in Kentucky. Warrawee Ubeaut bested the previous quickest mile rate held by among others her father Sweet Lou!

The Sweet Lou speed fest continued twenty-four hours later when his son No Mas Amor posted a 1.49.2 divisional win in The International Stallion Series for the boys at The Red Mile. Just a reminder Sweet Lou’s ‘down under’ book is now closed!

Bettor’s Delights millionaire progeny where on display on both sides of the ditch this week past. Dream About Me continued her preparation for the New Zealand Cup with victory in the $50,000 Canterbury Classic at Addington and out west the $1.65 million-dollar earner Chicago Bull was an effortless Gloucester Park winner on his way to the Victoria Cup to be held this weekend. Wrapper’s Delight was an impressive all the way winner in 1.52.5 in the in the $50,000 Group 2 ‘Smoken Up’ at Melton. With close to $300,000 on his card he heads into the Victoria Cup also with a head full of steam.

No shortage of winners for ‘gun sire’ American Ideal. In the ‘Shaky Isles’ he sired good winners in Ryan’s Gal at Cambridge, Flying Mister Ideal dealt to his rivals at Addington, Eastwood Isabella scored at Timaru and Ivana Legacy won at Invercargill.

Resident trotting stallion Pegasus Spur sired good winners in Amabede at Invercargill and Amanda’s Spur won at Menangle.

SWEET LOU ‘DOWN UNDER’ BOOK FULL AND CLOSED

Woodlands Stud is proud to announce that Sweet Lou’s Australian and New Zealand book is closed for this current season. We would like to thank all breeders across both countries for supporting ‘The Great White Blaze’! His recent run of great winners in the USA continued with Lyons Night Hawk winning a division of the ‘Blue Grass’ at The Red Mile in 1.50.2, he has banked over $136,000 in his freshmen season. Sweet Lou now has earnings close to $2,000,000 in his debut season as a sire.

The annual New Zealand harness racing awards were held in Auckland this Saturday past and the Woodlands Stallions enjoyed success. Bettor’s Delight was New Zealand stallion of the year, his son Lazarus was named Horse of the year and also took pacer of the year accolades. Another Masterpiece, Ultimate Machete and classy mare Utmost Delight all won their respective horse of the year categories’ giving Bettor’s Delight a big night out!

Pegasus’s Spurs son Speeding Spur was named New Zealand trotter of the year and 5yo and older trotter of the year also. Congratulations to all winners on this prestigious industry night.

SPEEDING SPUR RESUMES IN STYLE  

Gun squaregaiter Speeding Spur resumed in style with a first up victory at Auckland this week past. Overcoming a 50 metre handicap the son of Pegasus Spur showed great closing speed to defeat his rivals, it was a great drive by Josh Dickie. This was career win number 22 and he now has over $888,000 in career earnings. Once again he looks like being a major player in all the key features this season.

American Ideal’s son American History continued his stellar season with victory in the $250,000 Kentucky sires stakes for 3yo’s when he posted a 1.48.1 mile at the Red Mile. He now has career earnings of over $472,000 and this was his seventh victory for the season. Other good winners for American Ideal included Flying Mister Ideal at Addington, Pay Me Overs at Newcastle and Goodtime Slater at Menangle.

Champion stallion Bettor’s Delight posted a treble at Newcastle where Derringer, Styx Vixen and Highview Freddy greeted the judge, English Rose was a winner at Auckland, the Woodlands bred and raised Ideal Pleasure paced 1.52.2 to win at Menangle and at Addington, Bettor’s Delight sired a double when Scarlett Banner and Global Domination recorded victories.

MY KIWI MATE BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Classy Victorian pacer My Kiwi Mate took his earnings close to $300,000 when sprinted quickly to win the ‘The Gammalite’ at Melton. It was great to see the son of Bettor’s Delight win the feature race. This was career win number fifteen and the Interdominion looks a long-term plan for My Kiwi Mate.

Other good winners for Bettor’s Delight included Beltane at Shepparton, El Gran Senor at Menangle, Melina Lowe at Winton and he sired a double at Cambridge when High Point and Count Landeck greeted the judge.

Sweet Lou’s progeny keep winning in the USA, his daughter’s She’s All Right and Sweet Chrome won both divisions of the Keystone Classic at The Meadows in Pennsylvania and in Kentucky his ace son Blood Money won a division of the Kentucky sires stakes for 2yo’s at The Red Mile.

American Ideal’s progeny continue to win races, his son Illegal Immigrant made it three on the bounce when he won at Launceston, The Spinster won at Gloucester Park, Mighty Flying Deal won again at Bunbury and Mr Kiwi won at Winton.

Trotting stallion Pegasus Spur sired winners on both sides of the Tasman with I Ask Nicely winning at Menangle and Medusa was an impressive Addington winner.

Great to see Crazed get a winner with Cuckoo’s Nest getting the chocolates at Rangiora.

BETTOR’S DELIGHT RECORDS SEVENTH CONSECUTIVE AUSTRALIAN STALLION TITLE

Bettor’s Delight continued his dominance in the Southern Hemisphere in the 2017/18 season and when the sunset on another memorable season, he still sets the bar amongst his peers. In Australia as in New Zealand he just completed his seventh consecutive season as ‘top of the pops’! His progeny earned close to $12,000,000 million in Australia this season and he was a staggering $3,000,000 million ahead of his nearest rival.

Once again both American Ideal and Bettor’s Delight are the leading two stallions on dollar average in Australia. American Ideal has completed another stellar season in Australia where his progeny have dominated key juvenile features and have excelled at Grand Circuit level.

American Ideal’s 2yo dollar average in Australia was a staggering $36,500! Thanks, to everybody who has supported our stallions over the journey! There was no shortage of winners for either stallion with American Ideal siring a double at Addington with Billie Jean and Saying Grace greeting the judge, Ideal Draw won at Forbury Park and Speedy Dominic was a Penrith winner.

Bettor’s Delight son The Fixer has improved omininiously as a five-year-old and locked away a New Zealand Cup start with a death seat victory in Holmes Vase at Addington, at Geelong Saphirque now has over $100,000 in the locker with victory in Breeders Crown Silver series for 3yo fillies and on the same card Demon Delight dealt to his rivals on debut with victory in the 2yo Colts and Geldings Breeders Crown Silver series.

CENTENARIO CONTINUES STANDOUT FRESHMAN SEASON

American Ideal’s ace 2yo son Centenario continued his season of dominance with an all the way victory in his Australasian Breeders Crown semi final at Bendigo. Blasting home his last half in 54.8, Centenario will be nominal favourite for this weeks 2yo classic. This was career win number eight and he has now banked over $257,000 in stakes.

In North America, American Ideal’s daughter Youaremycandygirl won the $270,000 Empire Breeders Classic at Tioga Downs pacing the mile in 1.50.4, she led in an American Ideal quinella on the feature with Alexis Faith running second.

Bettor’s Delight’s progeny annexed Breeders Crown semi final victories with 2yo speedster Hurricane Harley winning at Bendigo with plenty of authority, this was career win number six and he has over $100,000 in the locker in his debut season. The David Miles trained 2yo trotting filly Emerald Stride won her Breeders Crown semi final at Maryborough and will head to the final as the one to beat. In New Zealand, Bettor’s Delight was seen to advantage with a winning treble at Addington, among the winners where Global Domination, De Lancome and Ana Malak.

BETTOR’S DELIGHT CONTINUES DUAL HEMISPHERE DOMINANCE

At the tender age of 21 years old, immortal stallion Bettor’s Delight continues to rewrite harness racing history. In Australia this week past he broke the Australian seasonal earnings record cruising past the record he created himself in the 2015/16 season!

The figure is now in excess of $11.2 million for the current season. In the USA, his son’s dominated key features in Indiana and Ohio. Lazarus, ‘the wonder from down under’ made a stunning debut when he took no prisoners in the $325,000 Dan Patch Stakes at Hoosier Park. Pacing a 1.48.4. Lazarus became the first horse in harness history to pace sub 1.50 miles in both hemispheres! At Northfield Park, Bettor’s Delights 3yo son Thinkbig Dreambig won the $400,000 Carl Milstein Memorial in 1.50.0, he now has career earnings of over $300,000.

Closer to home American Ideal keeps getting winners out west, he sired a double when The Spinster and Runrunjimmydunn greeted the judge at Gloucester Park, Takara Truffle made it back to back wins for Aaron Goadsby at Newcastle, Centenario made light work of his rivals in his 2yo breeders crown heat and King Triton was impressive on debut at Newcastle.
