NEW ZEALAND ANNUAL AWARDS BRING SEASON END RICHES FOR 2016

The end of the 2015/16 season in New Zealand was celebrated with the annual awards held in Christchurch. For Woodlands Stud the night was a celebration of highly successful season. Woodlands Stud was recognised as ‘The Breeders Breeder of the Year’. Champion stallion Bettor’s Delight was the ‘Pacing Stallion of the Year’ and he has just won his fifth consecutive title as leading stallion in New Zealand. Woodlands Stud’s own Charles Roberts was acknowledged when Splendid Dreams was awarded The Breeders Pacing Broodmare of the Year. In the pacing awards category, eight of the nine awards were won by Woodlands Stud stallion’s progeny. Congratulations to all the following winners. Spanish Armada by Bettor’s Delight was 2yo Pacing Filly of the Year, she was bred and raised at Woodlands. Dream About Me was 3yo Pacing Filly of the Year, another winner by super sire Bettor’s Delight.  Great to see American Ideal’s daughter The Orange Agent awarded 4yo Pacing Mare of the Year. A clean sweep of the female pacing ranks was completed when Bettor’s Delight’s daughter Lancewood Lizzie was named 5yo & Older Pacing Mare. Bettor’s Delight dominated the male pacing ranks with the following horses getting a gong. 2yo Pacing Colt or Gelding of the Year was awarded to More The Bettor, outstanding pacer Lazarus was awarded 3yo Pacing Colt or Gelding of the Year and Australasia’s best pacer Have Faith In Me was acknowledged as 4yo Pacing Entire or Gelding of the Year and he was also awarded Pacer of The Year. Woodlands Stud would also like to acknowledge and congratulate all other winners for the 2015/16 season. 

MAORI TIME SHOWS HER VERSATILITY AT MELTON

Top flight Victorian mare Maori Time was at her best when she was victorious in the Group 3 Harness Breeders Vic Lightfoot Laurels. Overcoming a twenty metre handicap the daughter of top trotting stallion Pegasus Spur has now bankrolled close to $250,000 in stakes. This was career win number sixteen from forty lifetime starts. Don’t forget Pegasus Spur returns for stallion duties this season and he still remains one of standardbred’s great value squaregaiting stallions. Bettor’s Delight continues his ascent in the history books. Last week he passed $USD 150,000,000 in progeny earnings and down under more records will be broken in the coming weeks. Good winners for Bettor’s Delight this week included Lambros at Cambridge, Harry Hoo at Gloucester Park, Diva’s Delight at Albion Park and Franco Cristiano was impressive in victory at Addington posting a 1.55.4 mile rate. He is Breeders Crown bound and ranks as a key player in the 3yo ranks. Bettor’s Delight also provided a double at Auckland when Chevron’s Easy and Aliante both saluted the judge. Leading stallion American Ideal was seen to advantage this week with good winners in Ideal Warrior at Menangle, Let’s Play Ball at Tamworth, Bianca Tang was a Globe Derby winner and Is That So won at Parkes.

 

OHOKA PUNTER TAKES NO PRISONERS IN GROUP ONE VICTORY

Top flight pacer Ohoka Punter bought his ‘A game’ to Albion Park to claim a historic first Group 1 victory for his trainer Nathan Purdon in The Blacks a Fake. Driven aggressively to take the front, the son of Bettor’s Delight was too strong over the 2680 metre journey. Since being despatched to Australia by legendary horseman Tony Herlihy in January, Ohoka Punter has not been out of the money in 10 starts, he has now bankrolled over $940,000 in career stakes. Congratulations to all concerned. Other winners for the leviathan stallion included Soho Tokyo who won the Group 2 Tatlow stakes for 2yo fillies at Melton, trotter On Thunder Road won the Group 3 Free For All on the same card and classy New Zealand pacer Franco Cristiano booked his ticket to the breeders crown at Melton with victory in his heat at Addington. American Ideal passed a significant milestone in North America when his progeny earnings pushed past $50,000,000. He continues to elevate his status as one of pacing’s most highly credentialed stallions. At Gloucester Park, his son American Boy made it six wins on the bounce, his classy daughter Luisanabelle Midfrew is breeders crown bound following her Addington heat win, Hank Bromac and Vibhuti provided him with a siring double at Auckland and Aldo Rossi was an Albion Park winner. Pegasus Spur’s daughter Wilma’s Mate was a strong Addington winner and she clearly ranks as the horse to beat in the 3yo filly’s division of the breeders crown in August. 

WOODLANDS STALLIONS SHOW THE WAY IN AUSTRALIA

As the racing season enters the final stretch for the 2015/16 season, the Woodlands Stallions continue to plied their trade with great success. In Australia currently American Ideal is the leading stallion on average dollars per starter and super sire Bettor’s Delight is ranked number two. What an outstanding achievement by our lads and they are joined by top trotting sire Pegasus Spur who is currently the number one square gating stallion on average dollars per starter in Australia. Just remember theses stallion’s prices remain the same for the 2016/17 season. On the track the winners continued for all three stallions on both sides of the ditch. For American Ideal, his son Ideal Situation recorded career win number 20 with victory at Menangle, Young American paced 1.55.5 to win at Albion Park, Brydon Ideal was an Auckland winner and Jax Navaro won at Horsham. Bettor’s Delight had good winners in Ashes To Wings at Addington, Diva’s Delight at Albion Park, My Kiwi Mate at Melton, Hafter won at Hobart and Aveross Mac was a Globe Derby winner. Pegasus Spur continued his great season with Mosquito Spur winning at Albion Park, Quietly Spoken at Menangle, Motu Great Sensation at Addington and The Silver Fox was a winner at Oamaru. 

WOODLANDS STALLIONS ANNEXE FOUR GROUP ONES ACROSS AUSTRALIA

The first weekend in July in Australia saw a host of feature races contested on both sides of the continent and both American Ideal and Bettor’s Delight had a major impact securing no fewer than four group one victories between them.

The action started at Gloucester Park when 2yo The Real Ideal lead throughout to score in the $100,000 WA bred 2yo colts & geldings final. The son of American Ideal, has created a big impression in only a handful of starts.

Later on the same card, star filly Dodolicious won the $100,000 3yo fillies WA Bred final. Continuing on with her amazing season, the daughter of Bettor’s Delight, may just be the best filly in Australia. Her career earnings have now gone passed over $400,000.

At Melton star 4yo Ideal For Real showed he is Victoria’s best 4yo with a first over crush win in the $115,000 Vicbred 4yo final for colts & geldings. Pacing a closing half in 55.9, the son of American Ideal has now banked $275,000 in stakes and will be nominal favourite for the Breeders Crown in August.

Bettor’s Delight has produced another star daughter in Delight Me. In the 4yo, $115,000 Vicbred final for mares, she produced an amazing victory after being wide the majority of the race. This was career win number ten from only twelve starts and she has bankrolled over $165,000 in stakes. Congratulations to all people involved with these outstanding performers who tasted group one success. 

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON, BETTING LINE WINS NORTH AMERICAN CUP

Standout Canadian 3yo Betting Line confirmed his status as the best sophomore pacer with a stunning victory in the North American Cup at Mohawk. Driven with cover, he simply showed to much closing speed to win the $1,000,000 feature. Pacing a 1.47.4 mile he has now won over a million dollars in stakes. This victory was also a stakes, track and Canadian record for 3yo’s. For his sire, the great Bettor’s Delight it was his first son to win the feature, a race which also won as a 3yo.

At Albion Park, Bettor’s Delight’s 2yo son Maestro Bellini was a winner of the Qbred Group 2 feature for colts and geldings. Posting a 1.55 and change mile rate, he has been the standout 2yo this season thus far in the sunshine state.

Another big week for American Ideal with plenty of very impressive winners. Cruz was a first up winner at Cranbourne in the 2yo event. He did all the work in the chair and paced home in 57.1, Culler Coded won at Forbury Park, Twoforsixty won at Kilmore and War Dan Apollo scored at Bathurst. Top 4yo Ideal For Real remains unbeaten this preparation following his Vicbred win at Shepparton. Posting a half in 55 seconds, he will be a key player heading towards the Vicbred finals. American Ideal also produced another double out west at Gloucester Park when American Boy and The Spinster both recorded victories.

Pegasus Spur continues to be a rich source of winners with Wing Spur winning at Forbury Park and The Crown Jewels was a winner at Auckland. SPANISH ARMADA SALUTES IN 2YO SIRES STAKES FINAL

Bettor’s Delight’s juvenile daughter Spanish Armada confirmed her status as New Zealand’s best 2yo filly with victory in the Sires stakes final at Auckland. Bred and raised on the farm at Woodlands she recorded her fifth career victory in six starts and has now bank rolled over $203,000 in stakes. Spanish Armada has now registered back to back Group One wins. For the record Bettor’s Delight quinelled the time honoured feature.

Other good winners for Bettor’s Delight included Rave Moonraker at Menangle, Dodolicious won her WA Oaks prelude in 1.55.5 and Imke B was part of a winning Bettor’s Delight treble at Ashburton.

Out west, American Ideal’s progeny just keep winning. Ideal Tyson won at Bunbury, Our Ideal Act and Ideal Alice scored at Gloucester Park and American Boy won at Narrogin. Former Grand Circuit pacer Ideal Scott returned to the winner’s circle at Albion Park in 1.53.2, he now has over $750,000 in the bank and Resurgent Dream won on debut in the 2yo sweepstakes prelude at Hobart.

Pegasus Spur’s son Speeding Spur was named the winner of the 2015/16 Australian Pacing Gold Trotting Masters Series. Based on the five races, Speeding Spur was the winner with 220 points, 17 points clear of Monbet. Congratulations to John and Josh Dickie and the owners of this classy trotter.
