SPANISH ARMADA SALUTES IN 2YO SIRES STAKES FINAL

Bettor’s Delight’s juvenile daughter Spanish Armada confirmed her status as New Zealand’s best 2yo filly with victory in the Sires stakes final at Auckland. Bred and raised on the farm at Woodlands she recorded her fifth career victory in six starts and has now bank rolled over $203,000 in stakes. Spanish Armada has now registered back to back Group One wins. For the record Bettor’s Delight quinelled the time honoured feature.

Other good winners for Bettor’s Delight included Rave Moonraker at Menangle, Dodolicious won her WA Oaks prelude in 1.55.5 and Imke B was part of a winning Bettor’s Delight treble at Ashburton.

Out west, American Ideal’s progeny just keep winning. Ideal Tyson won at Bunbury, Our Ideal Act and Ideal Alice scored at Gloucester Park and American Boy won at Narrogin. Former Grand Circuit pacer Ideal Scott returned to the winner’s circle at Albion Park in 1.53.2, he now has over $750,000 in the bank and Resurgent Dream won on debut in the 2yo sweepstakes prelude at Hobart.

Pegasus Spur’s son Speeding Spur was named the winner of the 2015/16 Australian Pacing Gold Trotting Masters Series. Based on the five races, Speeding Spur was the winner with 220 points, 17 points clear of Monbet. Congratulations to John and Josh Dickie and the owners of this classy trotter.

For Pegasus Spur on the racetrack, Sarah Lindenny was a winner at Cambridge and Fiftyshadesofbrown won at Cranbourne. Remember that Woodlands Stud is consigning a number of weanlings at Karaka on June 3rd. Go to our website for all the details and you just might pin hook your next winner.

LAZARUS COMPLETES 3YO SEASON IN DEVASTATING STYLE

Outstanding 3yo Lazarus finished his racing season on a high with a powerful pacing display to secure the New Zealand Derby at Addington. The son of champion sire Bettor’s Delight paced 1.56.6 for the 2600 metre journey and ran home in 55.1 after facing the breeze. The victory was career win number fifteen and he has now won over $900,000 in stakes. Congratulations to all concerned and he now looks forward to the New Zealand Cup.   Plenty of other quality winners for Bettor’s Delight including Spanish Armada, who the NZ Sires stakes heat for 2yo fillies at Auckland, I’m Wrongly Accused and A Piccadilly Princess won their respective Victorian Oaks heats and My Willow continued her devastating form with victory in the Group 3 Jodies Babe Harness Breeders Vic for the mares at Melton.   No shortage of winners for American Ideal, with classy Sydney mare Sally Fletcher going passed $100,000 in earnings with a 1.53.1 win at Menangle, American Boy delivered two victories in a week by saluting at Pinjarra and Bunbury, The Spinster paced 1.54.9 to win in the west also, she certainly looks an Oaks proposition.   In the shaky isles, top mare Democrat Party showed enormous closing speed to win the Winton Cup blasting a closing quarter in 25.7, she has now won over $235,000 in stakes, Culler Coded was a winner on the same card and Idealindiamonds was a winner at Banks Peninsula. 

WOODLANDS STALLIONS DOMINANT FEATURES IN BOTH HEMISPHERES

With a number of quality races contested over the past week in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the Woodlands stallions were certainly a major force when the dust had settled. At Addington American Ideal’s daughter Luisanabelle Midfrew made history when as a 3yo she defeated New Zealand’s best mares in the $100,000 Breeders stakes. Driven a treat, she was too good for the older mares over the 2600 metres in the Group One classic.   On the same Addington programme Wilma’s Mate announced herself as New Zealand’s best 3yo trotting filly in the Oaks with a devastating display of high speed. The daughter of Pegasus Spur trotted her closing half in 56.9 and last quarter in 28.2 in the Group 2 feature and there are bigger things to come.   Bettor’s Delight’s outstanding 3yo son, Lazarus continued his race age dominance with a tough victory in the Vero Flying stakes at Addington. Sprinting home in 26 and change he will run a short price favourite in the New Zealand Derby.    At Gloucester Park, his son Chicago Bull was a winner of the $50,000 Western Gateway and at Gawler, Mark Dennis was a winner of the Gawler Gold Cup. In United States, Bettor’s Delight’s sons took out two divisions of The Levy series at Yonkers. In the $50,000, round three races, All Bets Off paced 1.51.3 to defeat reigning horse of the year Wiggle It Jiggle It and Bit Of A Legend came from last to win his race in 1.51.2, he has proved to be quite a revelation since arriving in the USA.   Great to see  Crazed’s super son JL Cruze return to racing with a 1.53 victory at The Meadowlands. He now looks towards a big 2016 season.  

JONTY'S JOURNEY

IDEAL SUCCESS REMAINS UNDEFEATED SINCE CROSSSING THE TASMAN

American Ideal’s classy son Ideal Success has created quite an impression since crossing the ditch and is unbeaten in three starts here. Following a stunning Horsham debut, followed by an Ouyen Cup win, he added the Ararat Cup to his trophy cabinet with a track record breaking performance. Posting a 2.00.5, mile rate for the 2570 metres standing start, he added a Group 3 to his CV and has now bankrolled over $115,000 in stakes.   Other good winners for American Ideal included Hey Porsha at Bathurst, Cold Ideal paced 1.54.4 to win at Albion Park, Ideal Chance scored at Penrith and Bianca Tang at Mildura.   Leviathan stallion Bettor’s Delight had another record breaker when Emmanuel blasted around Hamilton in 1.52.7 for the 1660 metre journey. At Gloucester Park, his son’s quinelled the Western Australian Derby preview, when Chicago Bull defeated a brave Can’t Refuse in 1.54.4, Ultimate Machete won the sires stakes heat for 2yo colts and geldings at Addington and My Kiwi Mate charged home in 26.7 to win at Ballarat.   Stateside, his son’s Domethatagain and former breeders crown champion Bit Of A Legend were both impressive winners of their second round Levy Memorial pacing series at Yonkers. Both will be key players heading players heading towards the final.   For Pegasus Spur his progeny where seen to advantage at Forbury Park with October Rain, Alderbeck and Holdontoyaspurs all saluting the judge.

PICCADILLY PRINCESS CRUISES INTO NEVELE R FILLIES FINAL

Classy Bettor’s Delight filly Piccadilly Princess followed up her Great Northern Oaks victory with a comfortable victory in her Neville R 3yo fillies heat at Cambridge. This was her 6th career win and she has now bankrolled close to $140k in stakes. Piccadilly Princess also has a trip to Victoria for the Oaks pencilled in next month, she is certainly a busy lady. My Willow has found her mojo at Menangle, she made it back to back wins there and paced a 1.52.3 mile and sped home in 53.8, at Gloucester Park,   Bettor’s Delight sired a treble with Delightful Jade, Ima Connoisseur and Chicago Bull all greeting the judge. At Bathurst his son Weona Sizzler was an impressive winner of his Gold Crown 2yo heat and at Horsham Geoff Webster unveiled Wrappers Delight who was a debut juvenile winner after sitting in the chair in 1.56.7.   American Ideal’s progeny certainly enjoy the Australian racing conditions with plenty of winners this week past. Among them were Star Of Dionysis who was a winner of the Port Pirie Cup, The Spinster paced 1.55.1 to win in the west, Eric Clapton sizzled round Newcastle in 1.53.6, Cold Ideal won at Albion Park and Redbank Harry scored at Wagga.   Pegasus Spur, just keeps leaving winners on both sides of the Tasman. At Addington Wilma’s Mate won by three lengths, Isa Smiling won at Cambridge, Quietly Spoken trotted to victory at Menangle and Holdon Toyaspurs was a winner at Waikouaiti.
